Atlanta Marketing Events

Terms of use

Draft written Aug 8 ’26. Not yet in force.

Unreviewed draftChris and Mickey have not reviewed this text and no lawyer has read it. It describes how the club and this software actually work today, but it is not legal advice and it is not yet binding on anyone. The points still needing a decision are listed, unresolved, at the bottom of the page.

What this is

Atlanta Marketing Events is a community of marketing people in Atlanta, run by Chris LaFay of Classic City Consulting and Mickey Mellen of GreenMellen Media. It exists to get people into the same room: lunches, masterminds, socials, the occasional conference. This site is how we publish those events, take RSVPs, and let members find each other.

It is a community, not a service you have bought. Using the site means you are happy to go along with what is on this page.

Your account

One account per person, and it is yours: do not share the login, and tell us if you think somebody else has it. You are responsible for what is done and posted from it. Give us a real name and a real email address, because the whole point of the directory is that the person in it is the person you meet.

Membership is free today, and new members are either approved by us or arrive through another member’s referral link. There may be people in our records who never asked for an account, because they came to an event or asked to be kept in the loop; email us if you want out and we will sort it.

The directory is not a lead list

The member directory is several hundred real people, and it is open to every signed-in member. That only works if nobody abuses it. So:

  • Reach out to people one at a time, as a person, about something relevant.
  • Do not export, copy, scrape, or otherwise bulk-collect the directory, by hand or by script.
  • Do not add members to a mailing list, a newsletter, a CRM sequence, or an automated outreach tool without asking them first.
  • Do not pass what you find here to anyone outside the community, and do not use it to recruit for or promote something unrelated to the club.

Doing any of that is the fastest way to lose an account, and it is the one rule we will enforce without a conversation first.

An RSVP is not a ticket

RSVPs are how we count chairs, food, and name badges. That is all they are. An RSVP is not a reserved seat and not a contract:

  • Events have capacity. When one is full, RSVPs close, and being early is the only guarantee.
  • Times, venues, and hosts can change, and an event can be cancelled. We will tell you if that happens to something you said yes to.
  • A host can remove someone from a roster, and does not have to say why.
  • If you say yes and cannot make it, come back and change your answer. A no-show at a venue that charges us per head costs the club real money.

Money

This site does not take payments. There is no checkout on it and nothing here will ever ask for a card. Most events are free. Where an event shows a price, that price is information: the host tells you how it is collected, whether at the door or somewhere else entirely.

A few events, the paid conference in particular, register through another company’s site. When that is the case the register button says so and sends you there. What happens after that, including payment, refunds, and their terms, is between you and them.

At an event

The bar is straightforward: be someone the room is glad turned up.

  • Treat people decently. Harassment, slurs, intimidation, and unwelcome attention end an event for the person on the receiving end, and they end your membership.
  • These are not pitch meetings. Talking about your work is the point; working the room with a quota is not, and neither is pitching from the front unless that is literally the session.
  • Respect the venue and its staff, and follow their rules. Several of our venues host us as a favour.
  • If there is a bar, drink like someone who has to be professional tomorrow.
  • What people say in the room is theirs. Do not record sessions or repost what someone said without asking.

If something goes wrong at an event, find Chris or Mickey, or email hello@atlantamarketingevents.com. We would much rather hear about it than not.

Photos, and things you post

We photograph our events and use the pictures on this site and to promote future ones. Tell the person with the camera, or email us, if you would rather not be in them. Some events ask for something more specific, such as a session being filmed, and those carry their own tick box with the exact wording on the RSVP form.

Anything you write here, on your profile or in the community, stays yours. By posting it you are letting us display it on the site and in the ordinary course of running the club. Keep it your own work, keep it civil, and do not post anything you do not have the right to share. We can take down anything that does not belong here.

Losing an account

We can revoke a login at any time, and will for anything on this page. When that happens the login simply stops working and the account reads as inactive. The site will not display a reason, and we are not promising an appeal or a notice period. If you want to know what happened, email us and a human will answer.

Revoking a login is not the same as deleting a record. By default we keep the underlying record of who was in the room at which event, because that is the club’s own history. The privacy policy covers how to have it deleted outright.

In-person events, and what we are not responsible for

You come to our events under your own steam and at your own risk. We organise the room; we do not control it. Venues, caterers, and any company running its own registration are separate businesses and their conduct is theirs. What another member says or does is theirs too, both at an event and in the directory: we introduce people, we do not vouch for them, and we do no background checks.

Nothing said at an event or posted on this site is professional advice of any kind, and acting on it is your own call. The site itself is offered as it is, without any promise that it will be available, accurate, or free of bugs. As far as the law allows, the club and its organisers are not liable for loss arising from an event, from this site, or from anything another member does.

Changes

We will update this page when the club or the software changes, and the date at the top will say when. If a change matters, we will email members rather than quietly editing the page.

Still to be decided

Left open rather than guessed at. Each of these needs an answer before this draft becomes the terms:

  • TODO(chris)Which legal entity is party to these terms — Classic City Consulting, GreenMellen Media, both jointly, or a separate entity for the club? Everything above says “we” because that could not be determined from the code.
  • TODO(chris) Governing law and where disputes are handled. Georgia is the obvious guess and a guess is exactly what should not be published, so the clause is missing rather than invented.
  • TODO(chris) Is there a minimum age for membership, and does it need saying? Events at venues with a bar usually make this a real question.
  • TODO(chris)Do you want a written code of conduct with a named contact and a stated process, separate from the “At an event” section above? Several venues and sponsors will ask for one.
  • TODO(chris) The liability paragraph is deliberately plain-English and light. If the club ever charges for an event or signs a venue contract, this is the section a lawyer should rewrite first.

See also the privacy policy, which is a draft on the same footing as this one.
